"The Hockey Song" A tribute to Earl

I just wanted to share a favorite by one of Prince Edward Island's native sons.

"The Hockey Song" by Stompin' Tom Connors was one of my brother in law's (Earl) favorite songs. Earl loved to watch hockey and he was an avid Vancouver Canucks fan. (Earl lived much of his life in Vancouver with his wife Irene and his four children John, Patricia, Frank and Bob)

He loved his family including two daughter in laws Leeanne and Cathy a son in law Gordie three grand daughters Shara, Kayla and Carlie two grand sons Dallas and Brett as well as his grand son in law Selcuk, great grand son Senol and great grand daughter Aliye

Earl's life journey ended on July 21, 2006 after a lengthy battle with MS peacefully with his family by his side.

I really can't imagine hearing this song without thinking of Earl.

"The Hockey Song" is a Canadian anthem, written and sung originally by Stompin' Tom Connors. It is now routinely played at hockey arenas where crowds sing along.

The song first appeared on Connors' 1973 album, Stompin' Tom and the Hockey Song. However, the song did not reach its tremendous popularity until 1992. It was at this time, that the song was played at Hockey games. Fans took a liking to the song, and it spread throughout both Canadian and American hockey arenas. Today, it is a well-known song, celebrating Canada's love for its national game, hockey.

The song is well known for its chorus,

Oh! The good old hockey game,
Is the best game you can name;
And the best game you can name,
Is the good old Hockey game!

The verses of the song are split up, so that each one describes a period of play in a typical hockey game.
